The abstract sculptures of Erik Wuthrich (Amsterdam, 1961) are mostly based on organic shapes and patterns that he encounters in nature. The art works refer to solidified movement and time. He then covers the shapes with a seductive skin. For this series he started with the beautiful shaped glass bottles of Kesbeke, a famous company in Amsterdam specialized in pickles (Tafelzuur). The glass bottles float in the air while a fluid seems to pour out, frozen in time, solidified like cooled lava. The first piece is made during an artist in residency project at Studio 1931 in Den Oever. The skin is coated with brass and acid and will change in time, due to corrosion. The second piece has a skin of gold leaf and will remain the same.
